Reagents used for Post-synthesis Modifications
Today, oligonucleotides are used in many molecular biological applications including gene amplification, cloning, genetic analysis, therapeutics and diagnostics. To accommodate the vastly diverse uses, many oligonucleotides require post synthetic modifications. Post synthesis modifications include the addition of a labeling dye, the addition of a quencher, the addition of cholesterol, biotinylation, phosphorylation, the addition of a linker or spaceror any number of others. Since molecular diagnostics has become a rapidly growing field, the most popular post synthesis modification has been the addition of a dye and a quencher. The addition of a dye and quencher allows the oligonucleotide to be used for the FRET analysis of a nucleic acid sequence in real-time PCR.
Azco offers a broad array of products for the post-synthetic modification of an oligonucleotide. Some are even offered as a phosphoramidite to be incorporated directly into the oligonucleotide during the synthesis process (see under the Specialty Phosphoramidite section).
